Review : Once Upon A Dharamyudh

Review

ONCE UPON A DHARAMYUDH

BY – VIBHOR TIKIYA

This is the story of a young mechanical engineer Prakash who has to take the reigns of Dharam, a textile mill established by his father who dies due to serious illness. And then the problem of labor unrest and some unexpected mishap in Prakash’s personal life make a challenging task for him to perform his duty as a savior for the almost completely ruined firm—Dharam.

The theme of the novel and the plot woven synchronize with each other on every page and the story runs quite fast maintaining the intrigue. Narration is in a crispy language and makes the novel interesting as each chapter is supported by the verses of Bhagwadgeeta. The author has successfully portrayed and developed various characters like Mahashankar Jha, Sanjay and the antagonist Uday. Bickering between Jha and Sanjay has made the novel a tad humorous and Uday’s frustration for being poor is well depicted and sometimes arises sympathy for him.

The most interesting thing I liked in this novel is that the inexperience of the protagonist Prakash in dealing with the textile mill’s day-to-day problems is reflected in each twist and turn and he’s to depend upon his two lieutenants namely Jha and Sanjay. People joining a new and unfamiliar trade should learn from this novel. Greed, corruption in Indian judiciary, political interference and exploitation of the labor as well as the proprietors of the mills at the hands of goon-turned-politicians is also included as part and parcel of such a story.

The one thing which didn’t go well with me is the end of the novel. Though practical, it doesn’t conform with the teaching of a father to his son, “The trick, son, is to be patient and fair with the people working for you.” The incident fabricated in the last by Jha is an age old trick and keeping in view of the writing power of the author, I’m sure he could’ve come up with something unique and different.

Good effort and all my best wishes to the author Vibhor Tikiya for his upcoming creation-I Want To Live.

Overall ratings 3.5/5

Review Of Maya’s New Husband

Maya's New Husband.

Maya’s New Husband : By Neil D’silva.

A Review:
Horror is not everybody’s cup of tea. Not even mine. But I happened to read this book by chance being a fresh release by Author’s Ink Publications, Rohtak and after reading a number of good reviews on Facebook and other sites.
This book catches the attention of the reader right from page one. This is the story of a recently widowed Maya, whose husband dies in an accident on railway tracks and police takes it a normal suicide. Then she happens to be friends with a fellow art teacher and eventually marries with him, notwithstanding a stiff opposition from her mother and sister. Then a new game starts revealing the occult personality of her new husband.
The best thing about the book is that it’s written detailing all rituals and practices of Aghories, the infamous sect of sadhus, amalgamated into the story with dexterity and perfection, thus creating a fear in the mind of the reader. Moreover, this is written in such a flow taking the reader with intrigue and disclosures side-by-side and page-by-page. Another good thing about the book is that it has a story based on obsession, love, perversion and supernatural dogmas against the backdrop of horror. The writer has been successful in providing the answers of all the possible questions which crop up in reader’s mind while going through the book.
So far, it is the perfect book in the category of horror genre.

A Review of Rapescars…they never heal… By Gaurav Sharma.

REVIEW

After introducing his first novel ‘Love @ Air Force” last year, which is an impeccable work of fiction, Gaurav Sharma has come out with his second one : RAPESCARS…They never heal. The title of the novel is perfect and the subtitle rightly conforms and confirms the pain and agony of a rape survivor.

This is a painful story of a girl Akriti and her so-called boyfriend Raman who conspires to rape her with two of his friends in his vacant flat brutally destroying her trust, self-esteem and maligning her body and soul forever. Akriti and her parents decide to get the justice in the court of law to teach the perpetrators of the crime a lifetime lesson and unforgettable punishment lest anyone repeat before committing.

When the judge pronounces the culprits guilty, Akriti, the victim, decides something else to avenge on her chief tormentor. And right from here the story takes an unrealistic turn and starts to stagger. As her request is granted by the Hon’ble judge, he acquits Raman, the chief architect of the crime betraying the trust of his innocent girlfriend Akriti and facilitating his flat’s premises to commit the the crime with two of his friends. This judgement leaves a big question mark on the wisdom of the judiciary which allows the main conspirator to go scot-free and punishes two of his friends with 7 years jail term, that too for the same crime.

Then the story takes another turns and twists. One such incident of taking the services of a call girl by Akriti to check on her rapist-husband Raman, whether he’s reformed or not, is not conducive with the theme of the novel-Unusual Revenge On Her Rapist, as the story switches over from revenge to reform.

During all this, Akriti slowly develops some feelings for her rapist-husband whom she hates to the core of heart. This reminds the reader of the Stockholm-syndrome which seems to be unbelievable and incomprehensible in the context of the subject matter of this novel.

The author is a master of language and narration from beginning to end and has been successful in portraying each and everyone character to it’s dexterity. The courtroom proceeding are unbelievably realistic and perfect as described in the novel.

I, with a heavy heart, award 3/5 rating to this novel. I wish all the best to Mr. Gaurav Sharma for this and his forthcoming literary endeavors.

A Review : Love @ Air Force By Gaurav Sharma

REVIEW:
Let me tell you first that I’m not a big reader and the pace of reading is also not worth mentioning. But I finished Love@Air Force within three straight days. I think it’s self explanatory how the book kept me hooked. For finishing a book so fast (in my case it’s really incredible), I too deserve a Padmshree or something.
This is the story of Sushil; a Sergent, and Shabd; a doctor holding a rank of Wing Commander, who had been classmates at school level, meet after a long gap of twenty years while serving in Indian Airforce posted at Agra. Shabd, the doctor, tells Sushil that he’s still unmarried because of his teenage-crush-turned infatuation-turned obsession for the girl Soumya, one of their classmates. And the story begins…..
Right from the beginning, the author holds the finger of the reader taking into the world he’s created in the novel and accompanies till the last word. This is the beauty of the writer. The story has been narrated in an extra-ordinary way laced with humor, satire, love, anger, compulsions and compromises endured by one and all the main characters. The expertise of the writer Gaurav Sharma for depicting humor can be judged from his ability to extract humor from the gravest of the incidents like the rushing of Sushil to Shabd’s quarter where the husband of Soumya Mr. Shandilya, also a Wing Commander, happens to confront Shabd blaming him having extra-marital relations with his wife. Wow!
If we see from a different perspective, the writer has succeeded in portraying the pain, agony, prejudice, partiality, and frustration of Non-commissioned officers at the hand of Commissioned officers in armed forces through the characters like Sushil, Khayalidutt, Das, Prasad, Ojha, and Shandilya etc. Wonderful!!
The twists and turns the story takes keep the reader glued to the book till the end. Well done Gaurav. Keep it up.
The flow of writing is smooth and the style and the whole lot language incorporating mainly the humor content has a striking similarity with one of my favorite author Chetan Bhagat and at times while reading one may even forget who the author is; whether Gaurav or Chetan. This is a complement and not a comparison at all.
Now, like a professional critic, which I’m not, a suggestion to the prospective readers:
Keep the dictionary hands-on as you may encounter some difficult words here and there which may baffle you, like me. Not a big deal, will increase the vocabulary for which one must be grateful to the writer Gaurav Sharma.

Wish him all the best. Waiting his next,Capture
